High-loading media can dramatically increase the performance of biological filters, giving you clearer water, healthier fish and the potential for larger stocks without having to purchase additional filters to provide the extra treatment capacity required.

It's no secret that ammonia is one of the major contributing factors to fish disease and death, so it's little wonder that many ponds have filters to help maintain the clarity of the water and remove ammonia.

Early filtration systems (such as sand filters and pea gravel) were essentially based around the removal of solids - filtering the water but not treating it in any way. Modern filter media now focuses much more on the biological treatment capacity, which is where BioBeadM and BiobeadB media come into their own.

Both these media-types have been developed specifically with nitrification in mind, and have a proven record in the wastewater treatment industry with over 15 years' successful operation. The media itself is highly buoyant (with a specific gravity of approximately 0.92) in order to work as a static bed for improved solids filtration and longer contact time for oxygen transfer (giving more efficient biological performance), and is manufactured from 100% recycled post-consumer waste plastic (HDPE), making it environmentally friendly as well as robust and highly durable.
The media differs in terms of the shape (BioBeadM is a ring-type media, whilst BiobeadB is a pellet), but is made from the same material, and both types have been given a micro-porous fractured surface to better support and maintain the bacterial colonies. Stringent quality assurance takes place at the manufacturing site to ensure that this surface roughness is maintained and that the media is of the correct size and specific gravity, giving you the confidence that your media will be of the highest possible quality. The media is capable of BOD (Biological Oxyen Demand) removal in the region of 8kg/m3, and ammonia removal rates of 0.6kg/m3. Whether you intend to increase your fish stocks without having to install additional filters, or simply want improved performance for your existing fish, BioBeadM and BiobeadB media offer the treatment capability you're looking for.
